Slanket

posted by LF @ 3:07 PM 0 comments

Emylene brought to our attention this fine product, the Slanket. That's right people, a blanket...with SLEEVES! You can drink, channel surf, even read or stitch without those shoulders and arms catching a chill in the frosty Nor Cal evenings. Brrr!

Shouldn't we figure out how to knit or crochet one of these buddies? Maybe as a group? Then perhaps we could take turns using it. Or, better, we could make one huge blanket with sleeves enough for all of our stitching arms. Sleeves galore, I tell you!
How big would our knitting group get if SomaStitchers got sued for copyright infringement? Well, maybe we wouldn't have to if their product wasn't SOLD OUT.

Knock-off slankets - that's when they will know they have made it.

It brought a tear to our collective eye when Gina finished that hat.

Those were the days... Whitney, our humble founder, toils away at the lovely Cafe Bean last summer.

Caia - resident supah stah!

Ah, Peas in a Pod at the Metreon Food Court! I think this is when Caia took the picture of my hat. Was this your first knitting night, Caia?

Ok, we need a better name for this blog. What's it gonna be? SOMA Stitchers? Metreon Stitch Mavens??? Uh, I'm terrible at this sort of thing. Help me out.

Groovy Girl Clothes

posted by Caia @ 11:48 AM 0 comments

Ok, Christmas is just around the corner and I need a gift for my 3 and a half-year old friend Eeva. I gave her a Groovy Girl doll for her birthday last year, so I decided to knit clothes for the doll. You'd think there'd be patterns out there already in cyberspace, but alas no. So, I just kind of winged it. I'm pretty happy about how they came out:

Felted Cat Bed

posted by Caia @ 11:32 AM 0 comments

My recently-adopted kitten, Etta, was in DIRE need of a cat bed. I found this nifty pattern for one that called for felting. Cool! My first forray into felting -- at least for doing it intentionally. I did the sides of it differently than the pattern called for. I knitted it halfway up, about 3 inches and then purled it for another 3 inches and doubled it over. Then I sewed the folded over edge to the base, leaving an opening for adding stuffing.

Low and behold, she LOVES it! She sleeps in it every night. Is she an amazing kitty or what?

Wavy Scarf

posted by Caia @ 11:20 AM 0 comments

I really liked this Wavy scarf pattern on www.knitty.com. I had this yarn on hand. It's a bit too textury for this pattern, but the scarf turned out to be very cozy.

Here is Etta modeling it:

Bags

posted by Caia @ 6:52 PM 0 comments

All I want to knit is bags! I have been collecting patterns for a while and I've finally knit up a couple and I have one that I'm still working on in my head. These were both very easy and fast, my favorite kind of project.
I made the pink bag while on a quilting retreat in Asilomar last weekend. I was the only one knitting for the most part and envying all the different fabrics that the quilters had accumulatd. The pattern for the bag came from a book I found in a quilting store on "Fabric Knitting". I cut long strips of different fabrics, tied them together and then knit them up. I braided the strap.
The brown one is simply a big rectangle folded over in half and sewn up the sides. To knit the strap I cast on about 80 stiches and then cast off for the next row. VERY easy and fun.
